Club Lotus - Invasion of the Lakes

Post by Rob P » Mon Jul 10, 2017 8:20 am

Just a quick note to say thanks to Jono and Stoneblower for popping into the Inn on the Lakes and boosting the numbers for the Club Lotus NW annual weekend trip to the Lakes. Really nice of you chaps to pop along
Sorry I wasn't around when you arrived but glad you hung around for a chat and hope the run home was a pleasant one

I passed yesterday as me and the Mrs were having a weekend away in the Lakes, I wondered what was going on when I saw the signs outside the hotel. I drove into the car park for a nosey but there was nowhere to park so gave it up as a bad job in the end. Looked only to be a handful of cars there when I arrived, couple of Elan's (I'm guessing yours Rob) an Esprit and Elise.

I Did give a wave to the blue Elise later on as we were coming back on the road from Pooley Bridge. Nice weekend for it!

Hi Nathan,
Yep Sunday was a quieter day with a few people heading off early for a trip into the lakes and some long distance travelers making an early exit.
In past years there have been in excess of 25 cars but a slight clash with another Club Lotus event in Wales (next week) limited the numbers this year, not so much an invasion as a Resistance undercover stealth operation.
Car park also got invaded by the Fiat 500 guys yesterday, made my Elan look large :-)

Can someone fill me in on this.
As a member of Club Lotus and on the Admin of NYLOC I feel we should know what's going on in our county,
If it doesn't clash with anything else (bearing in mind it is NYLOC 20th anniversary, so we've lots going on) we will definitely be able to swell numbers

Thanks, I am aware of the calendar for this year. The implication in Stoneblowers post is that the CL Lakes invasion will be to Yorkshire in 2018

HI SJW,
Just to put some substance behind Mark's comment about moving this event to Yorkshire.
The Lakes trip has been on the calendar for many years now as part of the Club Lotus NW activities, however people have expressed a desire to do something a little different suggesting the lakes has been overdone. Myself and a colleague from CLNW attended the Castle Howard meeting this year and a suggestion was to combine a weekend away in Yorkshire to replace the Lakes trip and include next years Castle Howard event as part of the weekend away.
It is merely a thought at present but we have discussed the potential for joining the NYLOC group at Castle Howard and being part of their stand.
Hope this helps explain the comment, we spoke to Andrew at the Castle Howard event and he was in agreement for us to join the group for that event and also offered some insight into potential hotels and runs out in the area which we will no doubt pursue further.
I think we may have chatted at the Castle Howard show, I was with my son Matt in the Blue Elan S4

Not at all Mark, all very much up in the air with Club Lotus NW at present, this is just something being suggested but not really quantified at present

Thanks for filling me in on that Rob, Its about time CLNW, Norlog, Nyloc et al got together for an event.
No, you wont have met me at Castle Howard, I was on the way back from a motorbike tour to the Vosges in France.

We'll have a chat about it at Nyloc, and see if we can come up with anything. Its NYLOC's 20th anniversary next year, and amongst other stuff, we have already pencilled in a track day at Folembray and one at Blyton.

Clearly Castle Howard is a general car show, so I guess it might be better to think of something in Yorkshire, based at a hotel that could be a Lotus clubs only event. That Blyton day in early September, will be our attempt to get as many of our members to at least one event in the year, so will be more than just track sessions but may be too late in the year for a CL Lakes Invasion replacement (especially since it is in Lincolnshire !).

Please keep me in the loop through email: sjw@nyloc.org, or start a fresh thread

Steve

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the response, I will indeed keep a note of anything that comes from future discussion and keep you in the loop.
I agree getting a few Lotus groups together is something that we should aim for at least once a year, can't be a bad thing getting a big group of new and old Lotus's together in one place :-)
