Quick Release undertrays

Postby Rich H » Mon Mar 08, 2010 2:54 pm

Hey all - I haev just fitted Dzeus quick release fasterners in place of all the fiddly m5 undertray bolts as I hate spending ages undoing all the little bolts!

Not a kit for the Elise (For an aprillia I think?) but had panel captive nut things and DZ1 rings. Only the very front sill bolts can't easily be swapped out as the chassis is in the way. The rest was fairly straight forward. The side ones you have to undo a few bolts form the shear panel to get them in and the rearmost outer 2 needed slight fettling to move the clips inboard by 3mm or so, 30 seconds with a round file. I fitted them with 20mm washers on the outside for most of them and 12mm washers between the tray to tray joint to space them out a bit.

Just 2 5mm bolts and the 4 8mm bolts then 14 half turns and all the trays are off!

Been for a blatt and they are still attached! Even fixed the handbrake cable rattle.... :Ok2:

Total cost - £25 for the kit and £2 for new washers

Will let you know how they weather....

I looked at the Elise-Parts kit but I didn't like the idea of R clips holding the trays on!

They are not very well retained when loose but not a problem when compared with the fiddly little bolts. ;)

Interesting. I could be tempted by these.

Let me know what falls off over the next 6 months or so :)

Like the look of those - group buy??

They look better than the ELise parts offering.

I thought that the EP bits looked a bit flimsey for road use.

I'll keep an eye on them but they have a pretty positive lock on them.

Drop the e-bay chap a line see if he will deal, otherwise Dzus will probably sell you a job lot without any fuss.

You can get screw head ones as well ala Mk2 Jag rear arch spats :)

There are loads of options out there - some cheaper, but I know Dzus are good (We use them on aircraft bits) and that they would fit. The best would be the recessed quarter turn camlocks but they are expensive and the recepticles need fixing on properly with rivets and stuff. These just clip on like the originals.

Might get another pair and sort the last 2 M5 bolts. ;)
