At the last Norlog Wednesday meet, Boothy and Dave were chatting about RC cars. Someone sent me this link, so I though I'd share. THIS is an RC toy :jaw:

Most I can manage is a hydroplane:

Hasn't had it's first dip yet.... Water cooled motor and speed controller - speed controller is 150 amps - which is a bit scary.
Will chew through a 3 amp hour battery in a couple of minutes...
Properly trimmed it'll do 45 mph ish with luck...

It may be OK at present - you'll find somewhere flat calm with all this high pressure weather around :) I wouldn't fancy it in too much of a swell :D

Seen quite a few things like that - was based at RAF Honington, detached to the RAF Regiment, a few years ago, it's now no longer a flying station but used to be a Tornado nuke base (3000m runway and long sweeping peri track that are maintained for use for BOLTHOLE so good for driving and station trackdays!). Anyway, in the RAF RC model aircraft flying is classed as recognised sport, which means it gets all sorts of support like football, rugby, etc, etc. There was quite a big club used to fly their jet powered RC aircraft every weekend, buzzing the married patch at low level.

I would post up some pictures of my 1/8 scale International Space Station, but I haven't built it yet.

I love that SR-71. It is quite incredible that they can make some of the more extreme RC planes fly, although a quick look on youtube shows a fair few of them crashing. Can't be a cheap hobby.

I remember as a teenage scout going to a camp at Tatton park and seeing the world champion RC helicopter pilot showing off his skills. It all went very well until he let the smoke fly, did a loop and crashed it full speed into the centre of the pond. Crashes it seems are just part of the fun and he wasn't all that bothered. Must have been sponsored !
I'm thinking of a forum name change... Seeing as my current username is based upon an email address that I used when I lived in my old house... I'm just not sure what to choose... Answers on a post card!

May be wrong, but the Blackbird looked to be a bit of a cheat - at the start he had a cover off - I'm assuming it was the engine cover, which was on the fuselage - so it only had 1 engine cunningly disguised (noticed the tail of the fuselage also appeared to be open) - not supprising really as model jet engines would be almost impossible to balance

Used to fly RC planes myself - still have 2 airframes (no engine or RC gear) sitting in my mum's loft. Used to fly them at RAF Burtonwood when they still had some tarmac

we pissed about with them at aschool as the school had a couple. I was mainly a spectator to an iraqi guy (things got tricky for him when the war started as his folks were out there) who was really into it. He got hold of a couple of rockets and hooked them up to the wing to fire off the wing which all things considered was pretty legendary.

Fortunately he never did any real damage with it, although he lost control of the aircraft one windy afternoon and nearly killed the vicar who was reading a book in his garden!

Ive not tryes my car yet with a Stage 2 motor in or with the rest of the upgrades. You start with Stage 0 motor and max you can get is 2. You can find parts and dealers in your local area by searching Google for Xmods go on their site and you can find parts suppliers from their. I ordered my parts off a website online but cant remember what it was. You can buy new bodies for it, metal bearings for the wheels, different alloys, tires, lights, neons, uprgraded suspension but they are a hell of a lot of fun!

Not quite!

Wish it was though, it would be so much more fun!

The Subaru/Skyline can do 45mph (but its currently broke, my friend burnt the speedo! and melted it like a plank! It was designed for a max 7.2V he put 9.6V to it and fried it)
